Cheshire Life: February 2019
MEMENTO MORI: TOMBS AND MEMORIALS IN CHESHIRE UNTIL FEBRUARY 24TH An exhibition showing how Cheshire has commemorated its dead from the Romans to the present day. With tombstones, tomb-chests and mural slabs and even a shrine, the imagery ranges across the centuries with knights and ladies, skeletons and skulls, saints and angels.
LEO FITZMAURICE: BETWEEN YOU AND ME AND EVERYTHING ELSE UNTIL MARCH 17TH As part of the Arts Council Collection National Partners Programme, artist Leo Fitzmaurice curates artworks from both the Arts Council Collection and National Museums Liverpool’s own collections. A painting from the Lady Lever Art Gallery called Psamathe (1879- 80) by Frederic Leighton has been chosen as the focus of the exhibition. The selection of works is dictated by the direction of the sitters’ gazes, creating the illusion that the subjects of the portraits are all looking towards the same subject of Psamathe.
