Freya Melia, a student from Bridgewater School, has been awarded the Max Gate Essay Prize for her original piece of writing titled, ‘Danger! Keep

Away!’ Freya wrote from the perspective of a young rabbit who chooses to ignore its mother’s advice and explore the forest, consequently being chased by a predator. Freya said: ‘I chose to write from the rabbit’s perspective and thought about the dangers a vulnerable creature might face.’

Miss Thrush, an English teacher at Bridgewater School, praised Freya for her thought-provoking writing: ‘Freya didn’t choose to end her piece sentimentally. Instead, she finishes by contemplating the transitory nature of life, showing maturity beyond her years.’
