FLOUR, WATER, SALT, MACCLESFIELD

Cheshire Life - - Food & Drink Awards - Sponsored by Mornflake

Brilliant baker Paul Robinshaw founded this Macclesfield institution in 2009 – and people have been following the smell of freshly baked bread to his door ever since. They’ve not always been based in Market Place, a former amusement arcade. Paul has baked bread everywhere from a cellar and a barn to a scout hut and warehouse.

He ditched a career in IT after attending a bread making course and set about learning all he could about artisan bread. The business started on his kitchen table but now his modern Macclesfield bakery attracts queues along the pavement. If you can’t get it there they supply other food havens like Mackie Mayor in Manchester’s Northern Quarter. His Copenhagen bread – a deliciously sweet loaf – earned him a gold at the World Bread Awards.

‘Bread changed my life and I couldn’t be any happier,’ said Paul. ‘I’m so delighted to have received this award and feel really proud to be here.’
