Deep lip colours and dramatic eyes are nothing new for autumn makeup collections but some unusual tones are causing quite a stir.

Jade green, black and midnight blues are the key colours to watch out for this season.

If you’re going to try a darker lip then it’s key to prep the area properly to ensure a precise look. Cover the lip with your foundation then powder over it. Apply a light reflecting concealer around the edge of the lips, then sketch in your lip shape using a nude lip pencil going from the outside in, toward the cupid’s bow, then repeat on the other sides top and bottom. This technique should help you get a more symmetrical look. You can then fill in the lip with the colour of your choice using a flat lip brush. Blot the lips with one ply of tissue, then reapply for a sold lip look. Add a touch of silver shadow or gloss to the ‘heart’ of the lip to create an illusion of fuller lips.

If you fancy trying a touch of green on your lips but are apprehensive then blend it into the black and add a gloss over it. Kryolan uk.kry, Pure Pigments Metallics in pure green can be used this way or on its own for a vibrant dramatic effect or perhaps blended into a silver gloss for a more subtle effect.

If you don’t want to succumb to the dark lippy then why not try a dramatic nail colour?

ImPress Nails in shade, Beautiful Life, £7.99 Superdrug and Boots, are incredible. The deep blue presson nails come with some 3D effect metallic blue accent nails so you can really enhance your overall look.

Keep your complexion luminous by using a pearlescent primer mixed into your foundation and add a touch of warmth under the cheekbones, the temples and around the hairline. Go easy with the bronzer if you can and try a flush of blusher on the apples of the cheeks to add colour. Pinks and corals look striking on the cheeks.
