Cheshire Life - - Finer Things -

It’s predictable – but you can’t have a round-up of New Year’s Eve shindigs and not mention the Scottish city. As Hogmanay hits, there are silent discos and street performers, ice skating and twinkly Christmas craft markets. Throngs of revellers gaze open-mouthed at the Viking-style Torchlight procession, where pyrotechnic performers blast out flames and torch-wielding crowds walk through the city streets. Move quickly though as events sell out fast. Or follow the lead of the locals as they huddle up with blankets and bottles, and party at Inverleith Park to watch the fireworks for nothing before holing up in a good-time pub.

Book it: Catch the train from Manchester Piccadilly to Edinburgh, operated by Transpennine Express, from £40. Rooms Eden Locke from £79. lockeliving.com
