SIMON WOOD WOOD, CHESTER AND MANCHESTER
The BBC Masterchef champion and owner of the acclaimed WOOD Restaurant Group will be hosting cookalongs on Instagram (@simonjwooduk) during lockdown. Here he reveals his favourite foodie moments and memories.
First dish you learned to cook?
An omelette. I started cooking as soon as I could reach the oven and very quickly I realised food is everything!
Most vivid childhood food memory? Tucking into my grandma’s rabbit stew. Most memorable meal out?
Without question, the tasting menu at the two-Michelin starred Restaurant Sat Bains in Nottingham, in particular the veal sweetbread – to this day it’s the best thing I have ever eaten. It left me speechless.
Butter. It’s essential for flavour; basting a piece of meat in foaming butter and thyme is every chef’s ideal.
Ingredient you loathe?
I can’t think of one. I’m a fan of everything. I can honestly say I love all food. Favourite place to eat?
The Ledbury, Sat Bains and of course with my team at WOOD Manchester.
When I’m not in the kitchen I like to… Train with my PT, run, and see my little girl.
Describe your cooking style in three words…
Classic, playful, unintimidating.
