The BBC Masterchef cham­pion and owner of the ac­claimed WOOD Restau­rant Group will be host­ing cooka­longs on In­sta­gram (@si­mon­j­wooduk) dur­ing lock­down. Here he re­veals his favourite foodie mo­ments and mem­o­ries.

First dish you learned to cook?

An omelette. I started cook­ing as soon as I could reach the oven and very quickly I re­alised food is ev­ery­thing!

Most vivid child­hood food mem­ory? Tuck­ing into my grandma’s rab­bit stew. Most mem­o­rable meal out?

With­out ques­tion, the tast­ing menu at the two-Miche­lin starred Restau­rant Sat Bains in Not­ting­ham, in par­tic­u­lar the veal sweet­bread – to this day it’s the best thing I have ever eaten. It left me speech­less.

Favourite in­gre­di­ent?

But­ter. It’s es­sen­tial for flavour; bast­ing a piece of meat in foam­ing but­ter and thyme is ev­ery chef’s ideal.

In­gre­di­ent you loathe?

I can’t think of one. I’m a fan of ev­ery­thing. I can hon­estly say I love all food. Favourite place to eat?

The Led­bury, Sat Bains and of course with my team at WOOD Manch­ester.

When I’m not in the kitchen I like to… Train with my PT, run, and see my lit­tle girl.
