the art of flowers
Cathy Graham invites us into her whimsical and colourful world of art and flowers
Cathy Graham has spent much of her life around flowers, and she has weaved them into virtually everything she has done - whether it be by illustration, simple arrangement or through entertaining. Her life’s work shows off the splendour and the sheer versatility of flowers, and her work is characterised, as she herself says, with a good dose of whimsy. Her floral designs now include linens, plates, lampshades, votives, boxes, and wall coverings and you will see that her zeal for flowers also creeps into her fashion illustrations. In her first book, Second Bloom: Cathy Graham’s Art of the Table, Cathy allows us a sneak peek into how her passion has aided her desire to entertain. By the end of the book, you will feel confident enough
to host that dinner party that you previously didn’t quite feel ready for. The good news is that the flowers and decorations that really turn these parties into truly memorable occasions do not need to break the bank, but they do need imagination and a flair for design and detail. Cathy’s experience - and that of her co-author Alexis Clark, a former editor of Town & Country - become evident through the book, as it will be to you when you follow through the number of their featured projects. It is true that Cathy’s inimitable illustrations add a unique touch, but you will gain enough inspiration from the book to be encouraged to follow in her footsteps.
