What to do now
The main lavender fields of Provence are centered around the Luberon and the Verdon plateau regions to the north of Aix-enProvence and Marseille, and to the east of Avignon. The flowering season in the lowlands is generally from mid June to early July. Higher up on the plateau, around the town of Sault, the colder weather means the blooming season is slightly later, from early July to early August. The main villages in the region all host lavender festivals – the most well known is in Valensole on 15 July 2018 whereas Sault’s is on 15 August. There you will learn about the versatility of lavender and its use in perfumes, candles, honey, ice cream and nougat.
