A chateau in the French region of Aquitaine welcomes creativity and friendship
Living in French
When Sara and her family purchased the abandoned chateau at Montfort, a little sleepy village in the French region of Aquitaine near the Pyrenees, little did they imagine that only a few years later, their home would be the perfect venue for hosting creative gatherings like the one organized by Veronica Charlott’s Lifestyle Retreats last October. Two top influencers from Norway, Franciska Munck-Johansen and Marianne Haga
Kinder had arrived to teach the ins and outs of styling and photography to a group of likeminded ‘creative dreamers’ armed with iPhones and cameras.
Staying at the local gite, Maison Pebe, an elegantly restored stone house at the entrance of the village, the busy agenda included visits to a local market and a brocante as well as nearby villages and of course plenty of photography and styling sessions at the chateau. As the Autumn weather was still inviting, most of the sessions took place in the garden with tables laid out beautifully by the stylists and the hosts and a picnic setting created just for the delight of photographing it. We were also lucky enough to enjoy a glimpse of the interiors of the intimate chateau which is being
decorated in a lovely style that preserves the history of the house but is also ideal for contemporary living. Our charming hostess, Sara, is a writer, cook and stylist who has made France her home all the way from Australia with her lovely family. She has chosen some exquisite wallpapers by Zoffany and Little Greene which she pairs with stylish shades of lime paint by Bauwerk Colour with whom she collaborates. The beautiful French style kitchen is the epicentre of life at the chateau and where meals are prepared with a love for seasonality and local ingredients. Sara´s fig jam with a touch of vanilla, which she made from the fig trees in the garden, served with local cheeses, was a delicious feast. One of the visits, to Salies de Bearn, a pretty village in the Pyrenees, provided us with some pictorial inspiration and a trip to the local brocante made everybody wish they had brought a bigger suitcase.. .all in all it was a wonderful experience where creativity and friendship flourished.
