Working to highlight the key benefits of collaboration
Felpham Community College was thrilled to welcome colleagues to join us in our mathematics, science, physical education and media studies departments on our joint inset day this year.
Having begun the day with coffee and the opportunity to catch up with colleagues from other schools, delegates were treated to an inspiring and heartfelt speech given by our head, Mark Anstiss, where he explored the challenges we are facing within education at this current time, emphasising the importance of opportunities to share our expertise, passion and skills with colleagues across the Blue Flag Alliance.
Delegates then moved into their subject areas to take part in a variety of activities, from moderating examples of the new GCSE and A Level coursework to discussing curriculum maps across all three key stages.
There were presentations from exam boards and local authority advisors, alongside the opportunity to share best practice through a range of workshops presented by ambassadors from each of our six schools.
Building on last year’s success, the atmosphere atfelph am was buzzing with the energetic deliberations of how to return to our respective schools and begin to adapt and develop our teaching and resourcing of topics discussed.
Reflection and evaluation time has again highlighted the key benefits that collaborative work like this can offer. Participants enjoyed the opportunity to meet other subject specialists.
They appreciated the time to develop and build the network initiated last year, whilst sharing plans and resources that have been created in response to the new specifications.
As our head expressed in his welcome speech, in this time of educational upheaval, it is vital that we remember we are here to serve our communities and the students in our care, across West Sussex; to continue to share our expertise and knowledge in order to build confidence in the delivery of the new specifications, along with seizing the opportunity to spend time discussing the new challenges and exploring solutions with a wider circle of colleagues.
