Reaching for the Moon

-

On 20th July 1969, the United States of America succeeded in their mission to send a man to the Moon. At the time, the technology used to send the Apollo rockets into space was pioneering and it truly is astonishing that NASA succeeded in putting Neil Armstrong on the lunar surface.

Today we take for granted the Technology that we have at our fingertips. Most of us walk around with smart phones and tables that contain significantly more technological power than NASA had available to them back in the ‘60s.

To this end, our world is ever changing and young people today have to train and prepare for careers that may not yet exist. Here at St. Philip Howard we are very proud to offer students the opportunity to do just this, through studying design and technology all the way through to A-level.

This year we have a highly talented set of young designers completing AS and A-level design and technology. With each completing substantial design and make projects as part of their course, they are developing transferable skills ready for the world of tomorrow.

Our A-level students regularly demonstrate the ability to be creative problem solvers, the perseverance to develop product through trial and error and the perseverance to succeed with their design ideas.

In 2019, the SPH Technology Centre is very proud to have seen students’ progress from A-level to university and to continue to further their design careers as product designers.

It truly is a privilege to work with such talented young people and maybe they will be the ones standing on the moon in the future.
