Men’s team too strong for Sussex
Chichester men’s tennis first team went into their match against Sussex firsts knowing they needed to get a positive result to maintain their title challenge.
The match was made up of four rubbers and the first pair, Neal Smith and David Kislingbury, quickly raced through their first match in just under 50 minutes 6-0, 6-2.
Chichester’s second pair, Joe Glover and Charlie Guimaraens, were in a very close battle but managed to win 6-4, 6-3.
At the interval, with two rubbers played, Chichester knew they at least had a draw from the match.
Smith and Kislingbury continued their form into the third rubber taking the match 6-2, 6-2 against the Sussex first pair.
In the last game of the day, Glover and Guimaraens took the first set 6-3 but were pegged back in the second to lose it 6-4. With the match tied at 1-1 in sets, they managed to take the victory on a champions’ tie-break to win 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3), Chichester remains top of their division.
A win in their last match of the season will guarantee them the title.
