Men’s team too strong for Sussex

Chichester men’s tennis first team went into their match against Sussex firsts knowing they needed to get a positive result to maintain their title challenge.

The match was made up of four rubbers and the first pair, Neal Smith and David Kislingbur­y, quickly raced through their first match in just under 50 minutes 6-0, 6-2.

Chichester’s second pair, Joe Glover and Charlie Guimaraens, were in a very close battle but managed to win 6-4, 6-3.

At the interval, with two rubbers played, Chichester knew they at least had a draw from the match.

Smith and Kislingbur­y continued their form into the third rubber taking the match 6-2, 6-2 against the Sussex first pair.

In the last game of the day, Glover and Guimaraens took the first set 6-3 but were pegged back in the second to lose it 6-4. With the match tied at 1-1 in sets, they managed to take the victory on a champions’ tie-break to win 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-3), Chichester remains top of their division.

A win in their last match of the season will guarantee them the title.
