‘Sew Something’ family join the Moonlight Walk fraternity

- St Wilfrid’s Hospice

Many walkers have registered for St Wilfrid’s Hospice Moonlight Walk on May 11 for the first time this year, many walking to remember those they have lost only recently. Brother and sisters Paul, Amanda and Lorraine will be walking in memory of their mum Elizabeth Greenfield who died in February 2019. Their fundraising efforts kicked off by a collection at

‘Sew Something’ Storrington, the shop Elizabeth had run happily for so many years.

Amanda said: “We’re looking forward to walking and sharing stories, laughs and remembering mum. Mum loved to walk and was all about giving and sharing.

“Like mum, my auntie is really creative and is making us all light-up tutus to wear on the night! Our team called ‘Sew Something’ stands at seven members, with Mum’s brother, Billy, his wife Jen and our cousins joining us. Not including the money, we received from the collection at Sew Something we have currently raised £1,600 for the Moonlight walk - and we are not finished yet!”

Paul remembers the love shown to their family by St Wilfrid’s. He said:

“Our friends and family that had used the Hospice before all said it would be incredible, but we can’t praise all the staff and volunteers there enough. It really was incredible.

“After the first night, the clinical team moved mum into a family room once they realised just how many of us there were. It meant my step-dad could stay and we didn’t feel in the way. The lounge area was really important too. We got to speak to other children and families going through something really similar.”

Lorraine added: “I don’t think any of us would be coping as well without the love and care of St Wilfrid’s staff and volunteers.

“Before we needed St Wilfrid’s, I don’t think any of us realised it wasn’t totally funded by the NHS. As a family we want to raise as much as possible for other people to be able to have the dignity and love mum had at the end.”
