Months of hard work paid off for this 90-strong group of Chichester students, as they received their hard-earned Duke of Edinburgh awards in January, 1999. The students, from Bishop Luffa School, Chichester Youth Wing, and Lavant House Rosemead, were presented with their awards by top football referee David Ellery.

One group achieved the highest accolade, a gold award, while others managed the silver and bronze levels.

The award winners had to complete four stages - an expedition, service to the community, skill and physical achievement.

Completing the awards took the students to such locations as Snowdonia, the Isle of Mull, and Dartmoor. The gold award winners also had to complete a residential project.

Gold award winners from Bishop Luffa School included Lucinda Fisher, Matthew Hopkins, Katie Lauchlan, James Peters, Claire Roberts, Cathleen Ryan, and Clare Wapple.

Silver award winners from Bishop Luffa School were Graham Abbot, Jonathan Ansell, Andrew Dower, Sally Emery, Elizabeth Gower,

Helena Graham, Craig Haistie, Phillip Hooper, Mark Hopkins, Oliver Jeffrey, Christopher Maddocks, Tom Peters, Geoffrey Shephard, Elizabeth Smith, Peter Trinder, Ryan Westwood, Louisa Woodruff, and Thomas Yelf.

Chichester Youth Wing silver award winners included Keira Ball, Rachel Betts, Sally-anne Bromage, Sarah Eardley, Johanna Ford, Marcus Hose, Edward Nicholas, and Andrew Nippard.
