Our president Margaret Finch gave a warm welcome to all the members who had come to celebrate our 50th birthday.

She then read out the list of members with birthdays this month and the members sang Happy Birthday to them.

She thanked Lynette for the lovely flowers and also Ann who had made the celebration birthday cake. Our treasurer Angela Zealand then gave details of money raised last month on the raffle and sales table.

She also told members about a raffle taking place in October where the first prize is £10,000.00 and the ticket price will be £1.

Margaret then gave a warm welcome to the Pebble Beach Band who were providing the entertainment for the party.

The band consists of six members who after retiring decided to start to play the ukulele and thus the band was formed.

They entertained the members with songs ranging from Bring Me Sunshine to Yellow River while using various ukeleles and instruments including a kazoo, mouth organ and tambourine.

Members joined in with

the songs and everyone had a great time.

Margaret then thanked the band who advised members that they could attend lessons to learn how to play the ukulele in Bognor.

It was then time to cut the cake and enjoy a nice cup of tea or coffee with a wonderful selection of savoury and sweet dishes that had been provided by the members.

Margaret then told members that there would be another draw for the Denman bursary with the prize being a stay at Denman College with meals provided and two workshops available to choose from. She then invited members to an afternoon tea which took place at Brick Kiln Nursery on March 27 at a cost of £2.50.

To celebrate our 50th anniversary there will be a lunch on August 8.

She told members that the most popular resolution amongst members was the Decline of Rural Bus Services.

There is a wide selection of items in the West Sussex News so members were encouraged to read through and see what was available.

Joan Nash then told members that 100 trees are being planted in the Northwood Estate at Slindon to celebrate the centenary and that our representative would be Angels Stanley.

She also gave details about a meeting on 22nd June called the plastic soup event with speakers talking about the pollution caused by plastic. The competition to name a cuddly teddy bear was won by Jackie with the bear being named Hamish.

The raffle was then held with members winning a variety of prizes from jigsaw puzzles to toiletries.

Margaret then thanked all the members for coming and wished them a safe journey home.

Our meetings are held on the second Thursday of the month in the Jubilee Hall Chalcraft Lane at 2.45pm where there is plenty of parking available and a warm welcome awaits any new members.
