The Lavant Duck Race returned to delight on Easter Monday

Lavant hosted its 24th annual duck race in the sunshine earlier this week.

The event drew a large crowd on Easter Monday, who gathered to see hundreds of rubber ducks launched into the river.

Jenny Quest, who helped manage the ducks on the day, said: “After a countdown from ten to zero, the children launched 400 ducks into the river at 2pm. Representatives from the six charities supporting the race cheered the ducks on in the bright sunshine.

“The leading ducks took advantage of the river current and sped downstream – encouraged by and guided safely by Gina Quest and Paul Feakins-taylor. The main group of ducks travelled swiftly in the spring sunshine, encouraged by Helen Spilsted and myself.

“The two winning ducks arrived at Marsh Lane Bridge at 2.49pm, eagerly awaited by a cheering crowd. Other exhausted competitors steadily arrived, the last floating in at around 4pm. Tony Loten received the ducks at the finishing line.

“Lavant Primary School and Langstone Sailability had stalls on the village green, while St Anthony’s School served very welcome refreshments.

“A wonderful time was had by all, enjoying the festive village atmosphere.”
