Walking with the cross
Villagers step up for annual Easter tradition
Christians in Westbourne walked through the village on Good Friday with a large wooden cross to remember Jesus’ journey. The walk is a traditional annual event organised by St John the Baptist Church, Westbourne. The rector of the church, the Rev Doye, said: “The walk is a great way for us to remember Jesus’s journey to the place where he was crucified and the sacrifice he made for us. We share the sadness of Good Friday and look forward to the joy and hope of the Resurrection on Easter Day.” Another tradition for the church is a dawn service on Easter Day, celebrating the Resurrection as the sun rises.
