Spring Bus Show this week

-

Amberley Museum is set to host its Spring Bus Show.

On Sunday, April 28, visitors can enjoy their first opportunity of the season to ride historic buses around the museum, enjoying a display of the museum buses and visiting exhibitors.

Exhibited buses include a 1939 Harrington bodied Leyland Cheetah, possibly the only pre-war one of its kind in existence.

A 1944 Bedford Duple Replica, which is a wartime Bedford OWB, was also rescued for preservation. As the bodywork was in poor condition and had to be scrapped, parts for an identical body were made by the Ulster Transport Authority and sent to Portsmouth, where it was reconstructed by the Working Omnibus Museum Project.

The museum’s own Southdown collection will also be on display and visitors will have the opportunity to take a ride on buses not normally in service around the 36-acre site.

Ten minutes from Arundel in the heart of the South Downs National Park, visitors can discover the South’s working past, learn about 150 years of culture and heritage and have fun riding around the museum on historic buses and narrow-gauge railway.

Exhibits include historic lime kilns, which are Scheduled Ancient Monuments, and original buildings from the days when the site was a working chalk quarry. In the BT Connected Earth display, children can have fun learning about the history of communications and have a go on old telephone switchboards.
