Arundel Castle hosts knights and crusaders for event debut
A brand-new event, ‘A Call to Arms! Knights and Crusaders’, made its debut at Arundel Castle this Easter bank holiday weekend.
From April 20 to 22, the castle grounds were transformed to show how they would have appeared in 1189 as the Earl of Arundel prepared his men for King Richard the Lionheart’s Third Crusade.
Visitors met archers and infantry from the Raven Tor Living History Group, preparing their swords, spears and bows for the crusade ahead.
The occasion also showcased breath-taking demonstrations of falconry, archery, battle tactics and hand-to-hand combat.
The next event at the Castle will be another debut. Raiders of the 15th Century: England vs. France takes place this late May bank holiday, from May 25 to 27.
