End of indoor season means it’s trophy time
DONNINGTON
Donnington bowlers held their annual meeting in Donnington Parish Hall. It was a lively evening of business, pleasure, food and drink, plus the prizegiving to winners of the internal matches.
The club have 46 playing members and some social members. More than 30 attended the evening, a good turnout.
Colin Hulbert, club captain, gave a rundown on friendlies played. They won ten, lost five and drew one. The most regular players were Allan Banham, Colin Hulbert and Janine Banham.

After food and drink came the presentation of trophies and engraved glasses.

CRABLANDS
Crablands held their presentation evening preceded by a ladies v gents game, which the gents won 17-7.
Top three triples were Julia Mclaren, Val Foyle, Joan Taylor (third place), Peter Blackman, Keith Palin, Trevor Wilson (second), and Wally Obermayer, Lew Lewendon, Dave Harding (winners).
Presentations started with the Internal League winners: Sarah Fewster, Jean Tolhurst, Les Jewiss, Keith Palin, Denise Merritt, Archie Colleta, George Arnold, Joan Taylor, Elaine Sadler, Liza Mercereau, Jan Obermayer, Eddie Willcocks, Danny Arnold & Peter Blackman.
Cheryl Brown and Elaine Sadler picked up the ladies’ pairs runners-up medals and Mollie Back and Lil Tuck the gold medal. In the men’s pairs Graham Ainge with Les Jewiss took silver and Rod Shambrook and Bill Merritt gold.
Open pairs runners-up were Elaine Sadler and Paul Holland and winners Iris Brown and Jim Saunders. In the drawn pairs, Iris Brown only managed a runnersup medal with Bill Merritt as Cheryl Brown and Peter Blackman took gold.
Australian pairs Lil Tuck and Harry Stead took silver and Jan Obermayer and Eddie Willcocks gold. In the Chairman’s Cup Elaine Sadler picked up silver with brother Paul Holland while Iris Brown and Jim Saunders won.
In the novice singles, the Manhood Cup, Archie Colleta was runner-up with Tony Dade the winner. In the ladies’ singles, Denise was runnerup to Jan Obermayer. Men’s singles runner-up was Peter Blackman, the winner Jim Saunders. In the Whitehorse Open Dave Harding pipped Denise Merritt.
The inaugural presentation of the member of the season salver went to Eddie Willcocks.
INFINITY
Four members of Infinity SMBC – Vanessa and Robin Armstrong and Pauline and Steve Jeffery (below) – travelled to North End BC in Portsmouth to play in a charity fours competition in aid of The Rowans Hospice in Waterlooville.
In the final they took on Purbrook and came out on top. The competition, organised by Andrew Shorney, is in its seventh year and raised £400.
