Fishbourne back in action and maximum for Crablands

FISHBOURNE

Fishbourne have lost several fixtures to the weather recently. But now the sunshine has re-appeared they have resumed, playing several BM League fixtures without success although two games have been close and well contested. Against Storringto­n, Fishbourne lost by five shots, 27-32, while a very close game against the Witterings was lost by three shots, 31-34. On the all-weather surface at Aldingbour­ne, Fishbourne were well beaten 17-58. In a friendly match at Fittlewort­h, Fishbourne had a successful evening winning 53-35. In the first round of the Holbrook Cup, Fishbourne visited Haslemere and came away with a good result winning by four shots 59-55, thanks to a good performanc­e by the trio of Dave Mcturk, Audrey Saunders and Bernard Wallsgrove (skip), who won 30-15, gaining enough shots to cover losses by the other two triples. In the next round Fishbourne will visit the Witterings.

CRABLANDS

The club’s best result for ages in the men’s West Sussex League at home to Southbourn­e when a welcome maximum ten points came from a 126-46 win.

Scores: Nigel Reynolds, Rod Shambrook, Tony Hanlon and Les Jewiss won 40-13; lan Blyth, Albert Humphreys, Peter Blackman and Mark Heasman won 32-9; igel Crump, Lew Lewendon, Richard Humphrey and Derek Clacey won 32-9; olin Marsh, John Cornwell, Tony Dade and Ian Ford won 22-15

At home to Norfolk BC in the same league Crablands picked up four points (76-84).

Scores: Bryan Jackson, Alan Blyth, Nigel Reynolds and Derek Clacey won 22-18; Colin Marsh, Rod Shambrook, Tony Dade and Ian Ford won 25-21; Mike Lockyer, Richard Green, Lew Lewendon and Les Jewiss lost 13-16; Alan Bateman, Albert Humphreys, Peter Blackman and Mark Heasman lost 16-29.

The ladies travelled to Maltravers BC in the Game, Set and Match League and picked up two points (31-48).

Scores: Chris Lewendon, Melva Bateman, Sheila Jones and Carol Bowles won 20-19; Pat Osborn, Val Tyrrell, Val Foyle and Sue Blyth lost 11-29.

In the Brooks Motors League Crablands picked up the maximum six points at home to Storringto­n (45-25).

Scores: Elaine Sadler, Richard Green and Nigel Reynolds won 23-11; Maggie Brand, Doug Muncey and Mollie Back won 22-14.

In the same league away at Fishbourne another four points were won (37-33).

Scores: Nigel Reynolds, Jo Green and Mollie Back won 21-16; Elaine Sadler, John Cornwell and Lesley Duff lost 16-17; (friendly): Sarah Fewster, Richard Green and Rod Shambrook won 21-12.

Crablands’ “fab four” ladies have again qualified for the national finals at Leamington Spa: Chris Lewendon, Melva Bateman, Sheila Jones and Carole Bowles. Chris, Sheila and Carole are also still in with a chance of qualifying in the Triples.

CARPET BOWLS

Medmerry carpet bowlers from Selsey played Birdham at home. The Selsey team won on three mats and lost on one, and the final score was Selsey 46 Birdham 34.

CHICHESTER Chichester 56 Bognor 31

Playing against Bognor in the County Double Rink Chichester won on both the home and away rinks with an overall shot difference of twenty five and will now play Worthing Pavilion in the next round.

Scores: Home: Jean Hole, Steph Baverstock, Sue Miles & Denise Latter won 18-15; Away: Chris Hobbs, Debbie Hogg, Wendy Adams & Betty Spicer won 38-16.

Chris Hobbs, Mercedes, Wendy Adams and Betty Spicer played at home against Linfield in the Gladys Rowland Trophy. At two shots down on the last wood, Betty played a brilliant wood moving the jack, resulting in a three-shot win.

Sue Dobson, Brian Barnes. Ken Clark (s) won 20--19; Stuart Hooker, Glyn Dobson. Carole Tuffin (s)won 14—12 A very close match with Witterings gaining all 6 points

Witterings 48 – Emsworth 51 Friendly

Helen Mason, Sandy Paton and Barbara Newman (Sk) lost 18-20; Teresa Heathorn, Sheila Currell and Ros Hanbury (Sk) won 21 - 6; Lesley Thomas, Maureen Mulligan and Chris Horsley lost 9 - 25; Emsworth winning by 3 shots overall.
