CHICHESTER A total of 28 teams from around the south east competed in the Chichester Open, sponsored by Reynolds.

The teams were divided into two groups with each team playing four games.

Group one was won by Balls Out on shot difference from Pagham. In group two the winners were the Late Arrivals while West Sussex Tourists edging out Chessingto­n for second spot.

In the third/fourth place play-off West Sussex Tourists won 9-6. In the final Balls Out won 10-3. Winners: Balls Out [Kevin Ball, Hayden Clarke, Andy Clarke, Paul Gandy (skip)]. Runners-up: Late Arrivals [Les Etheringto­n, Liam Meffen, Gary Miller, Clive Benham (skip)]. Third: West Sussex Tourists [David Parker, Derek Ford, Ned Waddock, Nick Hatfield (skip)]. Fourth: Pagham [Robert Pearson, Bernard Bag Smith, Tony Tack, Mike English (skip)]. Chichester 31 Norfolk 47 Chichester lost to Norfolk by 16 shots in the area final of the County Double Fours (Abergavenn­y Cup). Worthing Pavilion A 92 Chichester A 73 Chichester A visited Worthing Pavilion A in West Sussex League division one and with several top bowlers missing, Chichester had only one winning rink, skipped by Michael Hannant, and returned with just two points. Peacehv’n 18 Chichester B 24 In their Edward Rowland Trophy third round match at Peacehaven, Chichester B held on to win by six shots. Chichester 28 Worthing Pavilion 36 Disappoint­ment for Chichester came as they lost to a strong Worthing Pavilion team in the County Double Rink competitio­n. Norfolk B 82 Chichester B 67 Chichester B suffered their first defeat of the season when they lost at Norfolk B in the West Sussex League division three, Chichester picking up just two points. Chichester 86 Liphook 60 Chichester moved into the semi finals of the Midhurst Cup with a victory against Liphook. Their away squad lost by 17 shots, but this was offset by their home team’s 43 shot win. The county competitio­ns are reaching the quarter-final stages, with Chichester well represente­d.

In the triples Les Etheringto­n, Nick Anderson and Matt Bonnar just lost out 16-11. In the unbadged singles there were wins for Kevin Ball by 21-17 and Glyn Ball 21-15 and they will face each other in the semi final.

In the fours Kevin Ball, Gary Miller, Tony Sayers and Mick Page (subbing for Peter Whale) won 24-16 and they will now play a strong four from Spartan & Lakeside for a place in the final.

Chichester also have two representa­tives in the Two Wood Singles – Kevin Ball and Peter Whale, who will play their quarter finals and possibly semi-finals this week. WITTERINGS

Witterings 44 Chichester 31 Wittering Ladies played a GS&M League match against Chichester Ladies. It was a very friendly game played in a good spirits and the Witterings were successful in gaining all six points, winning on both rinks. Scores: Sandy Paton, Barbara Newman, Chris Horsley and Ros Hanbury (S) beat Mary Potter, Rosemary Manning, Wendy Adams & Betty Spicer 18-16; Marion Corbett, Sheila Currell, Maureen Mulligan and Carole Tuffin (S) beat Chris Hobbs, Steph Baverstock, Mercedes Neilson & Sue Miles 26-15. Witterings 55 Bognor 23 In the BM League, Witterings got the better of Bognor with wins on both rinks. Scores: Diane Leach, Alan Somerville, Fred Knotts (s) won 27-11; Brian Barnes, Carole Tuffin, Lindsay Bangs (s) won 28-12. CRABLANDS The club’s ladies played in the double rink competitio­n against Henfield BC. They won away and drew at home putting them through to the next round. Scores: Home side: Chris Lewendon, Melva Bateman, Sheila Jones and Carol Bowles drew 25-25; Away side: Val Foyle, Grace Humphreys, Lesley Duff and Sue Blyth won 23-16.

In the Midhurst Cup (two triples at home and two away) against Pagham, Crablands got through to the next round with a 65-60 win. Scores: Home side: Chris Lewendon, Alan Blyth and Ian Ford won 15-14; Nigel Reynolds, Lew Lewendon and Sue Blyth lost 10-17; Away side: Elaine Sadler, John Cornwell and Tony Dade won 32-7; Pat Osborn, Carole Cornwell and Val Foyle lost 8-22.

Crablands men travelled to Worthing Pavilion for a Top Club competitio­n but won in just one discipline. Tony Dade who won the four-wood singles 21-0. Scores: Fours: Nigel Crump, Lew Lewendon, Richard Humphrey and Derek Clacey lost 12-16; Triples: Nigel Reynolds, Peter Blackman and John Cornwell lost 8-22; Pairs: Colin Marsh and Ian Ford lost 14-28; Two wood Singles: Alan Bateman lost 8-14.

Crablands ladies’ Yellows played at home to Maltravers ladies and picked up two points in the Game, Set and Match League. Scores: Cheryl Brown, Lil Tuck, Sylvia Gray and Lesley Duff won 18-16; Sylv Hawkes, Grace Humphreys, Pat Terry and Joan Adams lost 14-20 (32-36); (friendly): Susan Jackson, Margaret Whittle, Val Tyrrell and Melva Bateman won 19-12

A BM League match at Pagham brought just one point, 30-33 the overall score. Scores: Elaine Sadler, Richard Green and John Cornwell drew 11-11; Carole Cornwell, Frank Carrie and Mollie Back lost 19-22.

A ladies’ friendly at home to Bognor ended in Crablands winning on all three rinks and by 56-38. Scores: Cheryl Brown, Julia Mclaren and Pat Terry won 20-11; Barbara Winter, Grace Humphreys, Jo Green and Val Foyle won 20-13; Pat Osborn, Lil Tuck, Sylvia Gray and Chris Lewendon won 16-14.

Crablands triple Chris Lewendon, Sheila Jones and Carol Bowles won at Preston BC to book another place at Leamington Spa in the nationals.
