Thrilling displays

The four young peregrines, three female and one male, continue their rapid development and have thrilled spectators with their displays. On Saturday a parent brought in a pigeon for them to catch in mid air. They missed and the pigeon fell on to the cathedral green. All four eyasses hovered over it but would not risk landing so a herring gull claimed the food. However, the gull could not lift the pigeon and it is thought possibly a fox picked it up in the night. A red kite passing by saw the pigeon but the peregrines made it think again. Janet Shaw snapped the photo of the week shown here when the male peregrine passed food to his son.
