RAFA 24 Chichester 45 Playing away to RAFA in the Brooks Motors League for mixed triples, Chichester won on both rinks, taking all six points. Scores: Ian Linfield, Frances Downing & Brian Butler won 26-7; Peter Whale, Mercedes Neilson & Stuart Meyer won 19-17.

Frances Downing, Mercedes Neilson, Wendy Adams and Betty Spicer travelled to Buxted Park to play in the Gladys Rowland Trophy.

After a very close game they lost by just one shot. Chichester B 117 Storringto­n 65

Chichester B secured the maximum ten points in their West Sussex Bowls League division three match at home to Storringto­n. Scores: John Walters, Stuart Wilson, Duncan Gray, Michael Hannant (skip) won 44-6; Colin Hulbert, John Williams, Peter Merritt, Mike Lewis (skip) won 19-15; Jim Neilson, Mike Davis, Les Shipp, Peter White (skip) won 28-19; Paul Chivers, Chas Campling, Terry Wiseman, Mike Bayfield (skip) 26-25. Chichester A 52 Newick 31 In their National Club Two Fours fourth-round match at home to Newick, Chichester A pulled away over the last seven ends to win by 21 shots. Scores: Peter Whale, Simon Tooley, Tony Sayers, Mick Page (skip) won 28-9; Peter Green, Kevin Ball, Gary Miller, Matt Bonnar (skip) won 24-22.

That win means Chichester are now just two victories away from qualifying for the main National Finals at Leamington Spa in August – their next opponents will be Sandwich A.

Doing very well in the national competitio­ns is Kevin Ball, who has been bowling for only five years.

Apart from being part of Chichester’s National Club Two Fours team he is also one win away from the main national finals in the national senior singles, the national senior pairs with partner Matt Bonnar and the national mixed pairs – with partner Lorraine Kuhler.

In the county two wood quarter-finals Peter Whale lost out 14-10, but Kevin Ball triumphed 14-9.

However, Ball could not match his form from the quarter-final and lost his semi-final 19-8.

Chichester have two representa­tives in the county finals at Eastbourne this weekend.

Glyn Ball beat fellow Chichester bowler Kevin Ball 21-4 in the semi final of the unbadged singles. In the county fours semi-final Kevin Ball’s team beat a strong Spartan & Lakeside four 18-10.

So far the four (plus substitute) has consisted of Kevin Ball, Peter Whale, Gary Miller, Tony Sayers and Mick Page. This team (along with Sidley Martlets) will represent Sussex in the national finals in August. The game was extremely close and hard fought – Witterings only losing the match on the last end. They face Southwick Park next. Scores - Home: Chris Lewendon, Melva Bateman, Sheila Jones and Carol Bowles won 22-18; Away: Val Foyle, Grace Humphreys, Lesley Duff and Sue Blyth won 20-18.

In the Game, Set and Match League at home to Norfolk, Crablands ladies’ Blues team took four points, narrowly missing a full house.

The score was 35-31. Scores: Chris Lewendon, Melva Bateman, Sheila Jones and Carol Bowles won 19-14; Pat Osborn, Val Tyrrell, Val Foyle and Sue Blyth lost 16-17; (friendly): Susan Jackson, Margaret Whittle, Sylvia Gray and Sarah Fewster lost 10-24.

Crablands ladies’ Yellow team picked up two points at Pagham in the GSM League despite a 37-30 loss. Scores: Elaine Sadler, Jo Green, Lesley Duff and Mollie Back won 18-14; Cheryl Brown, Grace Humphreys, Pat Terry and Joan Adams lost 12-23; (friendly): Sylvia Gray, Lil Tuck, Melva Bateman and Sue Blyth won 32-16.

Crablands men won 81-73 away to Worthing Pavilion B in the Worthing & District League division one and picked up a valuable six points. Scores: Alan Bateman, Richard Green, Peter Blackman and Mark Heasman won 21-12; Nigel Reynolds, Frank Carrie, Tony Dade and Ian Ford won 22-18; Nigel Crump, Lew Lewendon, Richard Humphrey and Derek Clacey won 18-16; Alan Blyth, John Cornwell, Colin Marsh and Les Jewiss lost 20-27.

Crablands came unstuck in the Brooks Motors League at Storringto­n, losing 18-40. Scores: Elaine Sadler, Graham Ainge and Mollie Back lost 17-22; Sarah Fewster, Mike Lockyer and Sue Blyth lost 11-18. WEST DEAN

Fittlewort­h 60 West Dean 35 West Dean were away to Fittlewort­h for a friendly and were the winners on one rink but lost on the other two and by 25 shots overall.
