Schoolchildren at Lancastrian Infant School joined forces with youngsters from Central Cofe Academy for a Crazy Hair Day.

On Friday, July 5, pupils at the two schools made a donation in support of Pulborough based charity Headway West Sussex to dress their hair up in different colours and styles.

The event was organised by Spencer Senior and his wife Clare. Spencer said: “Both schools - Central Cofe, where my son goes, and Lancastrian Infant School, where my daughter goes - joined together for a Crazy Hair Day. The kids brought in a donation for a fantastic charity called Headway West Sussex, which supports people who have been unlucky and had a brain injury and their families.

“I had a brain haemorrhage and brain surgery so we wanted to make the kids aware it’s very important to be safe when it comes to using their bikes etc, and also how important your brain is.

“Lyn Henwood from Headway held an assembly in both schools and spoke about how the brain works. Lyn also discussed how important safety is looking after your brain, ie making sure you have a helmet on when riding your bike or scooter.

“Richard Hall, headteacher of Central, and Zoe Gordon, headmistress of Lancastrian, were amazing in supporting me to arrange this event and helping raise money for this fantastic charity.

“The children all really enjoyed themselves. They all had amazing different crazy hair styles and also were very interested in listening in assembly and getting involved by asking different questions about how the brain works.

“Afterwards, Lyn arranged for each child to have a bag with all information about your brain with design-yourown helmet wrist bands and information. The aim is to make not just children aware but also parents that it’s very important to protect your brain and helmets should be worn at all times!”

Headway West Sussex works to support people who have survived a brain injury, extending support to families, un-paid carers, professionals and friends. Find out more at www.headwaywestsussex.org.uk.
