Bowls SOUTHBOURN­E Southbourn­e 48 Chichester 26 Southbourn­e had an excellent result when they met Chichester at home in the Brook Motors League division one. In both mixed triples the results were never really in doubt and Southbourn­e took all six points. Scores: Irene Jennings, Peter Garrard, Pete Jasinski (s) beat Ian Linfield, Mary Potter & Mike Bayfield 23:13; Jim Jennings, Margaret Odell, Alan Williams (s) beat Mike Davies, Stewart Wilson & Ronnie Pickering 25:13. Southbourn­e 81 Tarring Priory 76 In their home WS League division one match against Tarring Priory, Southbourn­e were pleased to take wins on the triples skipped by Gary Wyatt and Antony Bull. With a win overall on shots scored Southbourn­e ended with six points to Tarring Priory’s four. Scores: Eddie Neuts, Graham Wilson, Dave Fewell, Gary Wyatt (s) won 24:15; Richard Galloway, Jim Spivey, Dave Alner, Paul Butler (s) lost 26:17; Paul Simpson, Pete Jasinski, Alex Horne, Mark Soper (s) lost 19:15; Peter Garrard, Richard Webb, Andy Smith, Antony Bull (s) won 25:16. Southbourn­e 31 Pulboro 35 In a close Brooks Motors League match v Pulborough, Southbourn­e were unlucky to lose on both triples. Chi A 31 Sandwich A 46 In the fifth round of the National Club Two Fours, Chichester A played Sandwich A for a place in the area final.

Because of the distance between the two teams the match was played at Gullivers Bowling Club, Bexhill, a venue equidistan­t from both teams. For the first 14 ends the game was very close but Sandwich had the better of the remaining ends going on to win by 15 shots. Scores: Peter Green, Kevin Ball, Gary Miller, Matt Bonnar (skip) lost 15-22; Peter Whale, Simon Tooley, Tony Sayers, Mick Page (skip) lost 16-24. Arundel 77 Chichester B 74 Chichester B travelled to Arundel for a West Sussex Bowls League division three match, although they lost overall by only three shots Chichester returned with two points. Scores: John Walters, Stuart Wilson, Duncan Gray, Michael Hannant (skip) lost 22-15; Colin Hulbert, John Williams, Peter Merritt, Mike Lewis (skip) won 26-11; Paul Chivers, Chas Campling, Terry Wiseman, Mike Bayfield (skip) lost 22-17; Jim Neilson, Mike Davis, Les Shipp, Peter White (skip) lost 16-22. Chichester 60 Rowledge 78 Chichester were beaten in the semi-final of the Midhurst Cup by Rowledge. Chichester’s home team lost by six shots, while their away squad were defeated by 12 shots. Rogate 59 Chichester 49 Although each team had one winning triple, one losing triple and one drawn triple Chichester lost overall by ten shots away to Rogate in a mixed friendly match. Scores: Mercedes Neilson, Richard Smith, Mike Bayfield (skip) drew 21-21; Pat Fisher, Chas Campling, Jim Neilson (skip) won 1815; Lis Campling, Graham Fisher, Les Shipp (skip) lost 23-10.

Chichester had two representa­tives in the county finals at Eastbourne.

On Saturday in the fours, Kevin Ball’s team of Peter Whale, Gary Miller, Tony Sayers and Mick Page were involved in a very close game against Carl Dyer’s four from Sidley Martlets but were defeated 24-21. Both teams will go on to represent Sussex in the national finals in August.

On Sunday Glyn Ball played David Payne (Herstmonce­ux) in the county unbadged singles. Ball was unable to reproduce the form that had got him to the final and was up against an opponent bowling very well and Ball was beaten 21-8, however by reaching the final both players received their county badge. Worthing Pavilion 39 Chichester 33

Playing away at Worthing Pavilion in the Game Set & Match League, Chichester won on one rink and lost on the other – taking just two points. Scores: Debbie Hogg, Steph Baverstock, Wendy Adams & Betty Spicer won 18-16; Chris Hobbs, Lis Campling, Bridget Collins & Denise Latter lost 15-23. Chichester 65 Middleton 15 Chichester played at home against Middleton in the Game Set & Match League, winning on both rinks taking all six points. Scores: Lis Campling, Bridget Collins, Sue Miles & Denise Latter won 35-5; Debbie Hogg, Jean Hole, Wendy Adams & Betty Spicer won 30-10. CRABLANDS Crablands are through to the final of the Midhurst Cup, which will take place at Midhurst in early August. They played Petersfiel­d in the semi-finals and won on all rinks for an 84-55 victory. Scores - Home - Nigel Crump, John Cornwell and Tony Dade 23-12; Jo Green, Carole Cornwell and Derek Clacey 19-18; Away - Chris Lewendon, Alan Blyth and Ian Ford 26-11; Nigel Reynolds, Lew Lewendon and Sheila Jones 16-14.

Crablands ladies were successful in the County Double Rink competitio­n against Southwick Park, winning 48-25, putting them into the group final to be played against Burgess Hill at Worthing BHP. Scores - Home - Chris Lewendon, Cheryl Brown, Sheila Jones and Carol Bowles won 24-12; Away - Val Foyle, Grace Humphreys, Lesley Duff and Sue Blyth won 24-13.

The men fared less well in a Worthing and District League game away to Worthing Pavilion A – the score 55-102. Scores: Graham Ainge, Albert Humphreys, Peter Blackman and Mark Heasman lost 14-21; Nigel Reynolds, Frank Carrie, Tony Dade and Ian Ford lost 16-24; Mike Lockyer, Lew Lewendon, Richard Humphrey and Derek Clacey lost 12-27; Alan Blyth, Richard Green, John Cornwell and Les Jewiss lost 13-30.

In the BM League game at home to Maltravers, Crablands picked up two points - the score 29-35. Scores: Chris Lewendon, Mike Lockyer and John Cornwell won 21-16; Graham Ainge, Richard Green and Mollie Back lost 8-19.

Crablands hosted a friendly at home to Walton-onthames. They won on two rinks and took it 71-65. Scores: George Arnold, Sarah Fewster and Mark Heasman won 23-11; Susan Jackson, Val Tyrrell and Lees Jewiss won 18-15; Jim Tyrrell, Albert Humphreys and Joan Adams lost 15-16; Bryan Jackson, Cheryl Brown and John Cornwell lost 15-23.

After an exciting two days Crablands have finalists in the Alan Kite Mixed Triples competitio­n. Chris and Lew Lewendon and Denny Terry will play Pat Osborn, Dave Osmanandal­berthumphr­eys on finals weekend, August 31 and September 1. PAGHAM

Two friendly Pagham mixed triples took on the Beavers and won 29-10. Scores: H Dear, D Ellis, J Robini won 22-4; M Andani, M Rees, K Robini won 7-6.

Five friendly mixed triples played Lifestyle – Pagham won 92-57. Scores: A Ross, M Adams, R Read won 25-11; N Terry, J Robini, T Hayes won 18-8; D Ellis, P Holman, R Dear lost 9-18; S Read, M Andani, R Hilder won 23-8; P Wakeford, J Cowley, K Robini won 17-12.

Five friendly mixed triples took on Little Spain but lost 92-57. Scores: S Read, P Wakeford, T Hayes won 17-15; A Ross, M Andani, P Mayoss lost 7-26; J Cowley, D Vaughan, K Robini lost 9-28; D Marsh, D Cripp, R Read lost 10-13; N Terry, M Adams, C Mayoss won 14-10.

A four-rink men’s league match versus Worthing Pavilion A was lost 109-43, with no points taken. Scores: J Fox, G Cutts, M Adams, J Jones lost 11-32; P Langridge, N Terry, P Burrell, P Mayoss lost 6-30; C Stone, K Robini, T Hayes, R Dear lost 16-25; R Pearson, B Smith, K Ruffell, M English lost 10-22. EAST PRESTON A total of 28 teams from all over East and West Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire played in East Preston’s men’s open triples day, sponsored by club members John and Mary Jones and organised by Bernie King and John Colebrookt­aylor.

The winning team was the City Club, Chichester, consisting of Mick Campbell, Ian Lindfield and Peter Hannam (pictured below), who picked up the trophy and the £300 top prize.
