Mermaid set to take on 12-hour swim in attempt to set record

- James Connaughton news@chiobserver.co.uk

The owner of a mermaid experience business is set to take on a 12-hour swim at Arundel Lido in an attempt to break a world record.

Anna Haskell, from South Coast Mermaids, will be trying to beat the record for the longest time swimming in a mermaid tail and mono fin.

Starting at 7am on Sunday, September 22, Anna’s challenge will, hopefully, end at 7.30pm after she has broken the record.

Anna is raising money for two Sussex charities – Arundel and Download Community Leisure Trust and Chestnut Tree House children’s hospice.

She said: “Both facilities provide access to swimming and leisure activities for the community, which is something I am very passionate about.

“I am looking forward to attempting to create a world record, and will also be joined in one-hour slots by some of my mermaid swimming students as well as other mermaid swimming instructors.

“It’s great that the community are getting behind the challenge, which I hope will result in lots of donations.”

The one-of-a-kind mermaid tail which Anna will be wearing throughout the world record attempt is being designed by American company Finfun, and will be inspired by Arundel Castle, which overlooks the lido.

Spectators can drop in to Arundel Lido, in Queen Street, throughout the day on September 22 to cheer on Anna and her students as they swim in their mermaid tails.
