Holbrook Cup final effort proves perfect for Pagham

PAGHAM

Pagham are the winners of the Holbrook Cup.

They sent three mixed triples to play Midhurst in the final at Stedham and ran out 59-52 winners in a close contest. Scores: Robert Pearson Gill Conley Mike English lost 17/20; Peter Wakeford Eileen Shine Julian Jones lost 16/20; Anne Burrell Peter Burrell Roger Dear won 26/13.

Four Pagham men’s rinks played Bognor in a friendly and won 103-72. Scores: P Langridge D Westcott R Hilder P Mayoss lost 19/24; R Pearson D Vaughan B Smith M English won 30/14; D Cripp J Burke K Ruffell J Fox drew 22/22; T Plows M Adams P Burrell T Hayes won 32/12.

WITTERINGS

Witterings Ladies welcomed ten other clubs from the district to their annual ladies’ invitation tournament.

The weather was perfect for bowling and everyone had a good time.

The afternoon started with the a spider in aid of the Concern for Life local children’s charity. The match was followed by a meal prepared by club members.

The top three winning teams all received cash prizes presented by club president Fred Knotts. They were Burgess Hill (1st), Little Spain (2nd) and Witterings (3rd).

Ladies’ captain Chris Horsley thanked the Witterings members for all their hard work in making the event a real success.

CRABLANDS

In the Ladies Game, Set and Match League (Division 2), Crablands Yellow side collected 2 points away to Norfolk (32-39): Cheryl Brown, Grace Humphreys, Pat Terry and Lesley Duff won 19-17

Jo Green, Maggie Brand, Carole Cornwell and Joan Adams lost 13-22

Friendly- Val Foyle, Lil Tuck, Sarah Fewster and Sue Blyth lost 21-22 In the WSBL Crablands Men hosted Worthing Pavilion “B” and picked up 4 points (6472), sadly not enough to keep them in Division 1: Richard Green, Mike Lockyer, Tony Dade and Ian Ford won 20-14

CHICHESTER

Chichester B visited East Preston B knowing five points would be enough to secure the West Sussex Bowls League Division Three title. After eleven ends they were up on three rinks and looking good for six points, however, East Preston had the better of the second half of the game and Chichester returned with just two points which meant Chichester finished second but they are still promoted to division two.

After nine ends the Bowling Club were nine shots ahead, however, the Bowling Club pulled away over the remaining ends to retain the trophy.

Chichester entertaine­d a touring team, Colchester Northcount­rymen, for a mixed friendly match. Chichester steadily built up their score to secure a comfortabl­e victory.

Club Finals

After four ends Kevin Ball was 7-0 up against Stuart Meyer in the Chichester Mixed Singles final. Although Meyer fought hard he could not get back into the match and Ball was triumphant 21 - 9

Men’s singles championsh­ip

Kevin Ball was in action again this time playing Tony Sayers for the Men’s Singles Championsh­ip. Ball went 7 - 0 up after four ends, but Sayers pulled back to trail 7 - 5 after seven ends.

Ball then won eight of the last twelve ends to win the title 23 -10.

MEDMERRY CARPET BOWLS CLUB

Medmerry Carpet Bowlers played their first game of the new season against Mundham September 1st. at home, The Medmerry Bowlers won on all four mats, the top team was, lead by Roy Tolhurst, with Sally Mason playing number 1, Sheila Plaistow played 2, & Pat Joy played 3, Their score was Medmerry 20 Mundham 3. Overall score was Medmerry 65--Mundham 21.

THE WEST SUSSEX BOWLS LEAGUE

The West Sussex Bowls League reaches its Finale on Sunday 14th of September, with the PC Cup Final held at Worthing Pavilion Bowls Club start time 2pm. The match will be contested between local rivals Worthing Pavilion and Tarring Priory.

Worthing Pavilion defeated Crablands, Chichester, Goring Manor and Worthing to reach the last 2. Tarring Priory’s journey took them to Southbourn­e, Witterings and Norfolk. Alongside the final, the 2019 Champions of the 3 Divisions will play a combined WSBL side in an 8 rink friendly bowls battle.

The 2019 Divisional winners are: Division 1, Chichester; Division 2 Worthing; & Division 3 Norfolk B. Chichester won at a canter and had a full two weeks to spare after amassing an unsurpassa­ble total.

Worthing on the other hand had to wait until the very last week of the season before they could be declared Div 2 champions. The same story was true in Division 3 as Norfolk had to wait until the challenge from Chichester B faded before they could safely lay claim to Div 3.

MIDDLETON

Middleton v Little Spain:

This mixed friendly tipples match finished with two rinks won by Middleton and three rinks won by Little Spain. The overall score was 69 to 94

Middleton v Worthing Pavilion:

This ladies GSM league match finished 1 rink won by Middleton and 1 rink won by Worthing Pavilion. The overall score was 32 to 38 giving Worthing Pavilion the additional 2 points.

Middleton v Norfolk

This ladies friendly triples match finished with 3 rinks won by Norfolk. The overall score was 41 to 59.
