Volunteers are thanked after beach clean success
Volunteers have been thanked for their part in a successful weekend beach clean at Selsey’s East Beach.
The clean-up and survey took place on Saturday, during the Marine Conservation Society’s annual Great British Beach Clean, and was organised by Chichester District Council as part of its Selsey Bathing Water Enhancement Project, which is delivered in partnership with Southern Water.
About 50 volunteers took part in the beach clean. They surveyed over 2km of beaches and collected 17 bags of rubbish.
“This was a fantastic community event and I was delighted to be a part of it,” said councillor Penny Plant, cabinet member for environment and Chichester contract services at the district council. After the beach clean, the Selsey and District Lions put on a barbecue for all the volunteers, with meat supplied by Selsey butcher, Francis and Sons Family Butchers.
