Democracy in decision making
Last week’s article by Dr Walsh highlights the lack of democracy at West Sussex County Council (WSCC) where the cabinet system means that all significant decisions are made by nine of the 70 elected councillors.

Council also uses the same undemocratic system of a cabinet of members of the Conservative party, although they do not have an overall majority, but are simply the largest party.
As Dr Walsh says with reference to WSCC, members of the public are astounded to find that despite the Conservatives losing their majority at district level, nothing has changed as far as decision making is
