Thanks to those who came to aid

-

I would like to thank all the wonderful young ladies who came to my aid when I was knocked over by a white transit van on the pavement outside the entrance to Bonmarche.

The girls dialled 999 and made sure I was okay. The van ran over my right foot and ended up on my left foot.

I also received a gash on my head when I fell forward and hit my head on the right-hand side head down.

I had seen the van slowly coming towards me and had bent down to move two bags and move out of its way.

The van kept coming forward and I was knocked to the ground. The first service to arrive was a policewoman who kept me talking and looked after me until the paramedics in an ambulance came shortly afterwards.

I had a bruised right right foot and a gash on the head. The paramedics (one man and two ladies) had the day before been practicing a new procedure of gluing the wound together.

I was their first casualty to receive this treatment and they took photos on their mobile phones and spoke to someone to make sure they had got it right!

I was then interviewed by a woman police officer. Many thanks to all concerned – if the van had been faster I would have been killed!

I am a 77-year-old pensioner who keeps fit and active.

Apart from a lump on my head I have recovered from my ordeal.

In other news, I am a founder member of Crawley Athletic Club and a member of the Sussex Association of Bell Ringers.i ring the bells at St. Mary’s Church Felpham. I finished my working days at Butlin’s Bognor Regis working in five departments over 17 years.

I am spending this year doing all sorts of charity events for different charities. I have already taken part in a few events. I am in the process of setting up the Mike Saward Trust and am going all out to raise one-billion pounds for various charities. MIKE SAWARD Victoria Drive, Bognor
