Issues with traffic in area

-

Elaine Stainton is right – this mini roundabout does need improving (‘New Felpham mini roundabout’s design ‘dangerous’ and ‘flawed’’, Observer September 19 & online), although it would help to move the Summerley Lane give way further forward, the main problem is the speed of vehicles coming from the Littlehampton direction.

As there are few vehicles turning right into Summerley Lane, these westbound drivers do not slow down, in fact some accelerate, driving over the hatching, sometimes well in excess of 30mph. What is needed is a physical feature on this eastern side, like a raised island to force drivers to slow down.

If Mrs Stainton thinks this scheme was a waste of money, perhaps further thought should be given to spending £50,000 on introducing 20mph speed limits on 136 of Felpham’s roads where there has not been a speed-related accident in the last three years.

Included in this package is a scheme for speed cushions in Summerley Lane, this is a complete waste of money, as you have to drive carefully down there anyway due to parked cars.

In fact when football matches take place it is single file traffic over almost the entire length of Summerley Lane. TONY TURLEY
