Chichester lift title as league celebrates another successful season

-

The West Sussex Bowls League’s annual finale was played at Worthing Pavilion Bowls Club.

The PC Cup final was played on four rinks and the other eight rinks staged a match made up of the division one, two and three champions against a team composed of the ‘rest’ of the league.

Chichester, as division one champions provided three rinks.

Worthing Pavilion beat Tarring Priory in the PC Cup final.

The league have been holding their cup finals and celebration at Pavilion for more than 20 years and invite representatives from every club. This year the champions

lived up to their name and got the better of ‘the rest’.

Top rink of the day was Eddy Walmesley (Arundel), Stan Enticknap (Petworth), Chris Wade (Chichester) and Roger Ayling (WST).

Several players had never played the indoor game before, but, judging by the noise level, everyone had a good time.

After two games of ten ends, clear winners with four points and a 13 shot difference were Cheryl Brown, Tom Oliver, Lesley Duff and Alan Blyth.

Runners-up with four points and +3 were Susan and Bryan Jackson, Joan Adams and Peter Blackman.

Thanks went to competition secretary Maggie Brand on her swansong.

The Selsey carpet bowlers played Little Spain BC for the Chairman’s Cup in glorious sunshine.

Selsey won on one rink, 2120, thanks to Trevor Plaistow, Heather Clarke, Jim Joy and Jim Haskins.
