The Academy, Selsey

-

Like children across the country, students at The Academy, Selsey have been getting to grips with remote learning over the last few weeks. As well as developing new skills and knowledge, everyone in our school has been getting to grips with being part of a community whilst physically distanced. Our students have made us very proud with the way that they have been engaging with the work that has been set as well as coping with these unusual circumstances.

Not all out students have been so physically distant. It has been fabulous to be able to support our key workers by having their children with us in school. These children have been following the same curriculum as their peers whilst also taking part in physical activity and some more social activities.

We were delighted to be able to support our amazing NHS staff by donating personal protective equipment from the school, including 120 pairs of protective goggles. It was a great opportunity for us to be able to contribute in a very small way to the amazing work being done to keep us all safe.

One of our students, Izzie Fauguel, was kind enough to give us her thoughts on the lockdown: “I have been working day by day like many other students and I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. I do not mind being at home with my dad and sister but it can also be quite annoying. I am in year nine and The Academy, Selsey has been working very hard to cater to all our needs at home. The teachers are very calm and my form teacher Miss Alonso has been writing us jokes and debates every morning, which is great. Every morning is still a school day for my sister and

I. We have also been doing favours for our neighbours like walking the dog and getting shopping. We clap every Thursday for the NHS and the whole of our neighbourhood comes out and joins us. I Facetime my best friend every day and do work with her and her grandad. My dad has been helping my sister and I with art and maths.”
