The Regis School

- Mr Garlick, principal

School is definitely not closed at The Regis School but operating in a very different way! We are receiving over 40 students every day for our ‘inschool’ provision and these students are being supported by a range of teaching and support staff with their studies. Mornings are typically core subjects with afternoons more arts based with a daily session of PE, all with social distancing in place. Students have quickly adapted to social distancing and there is a really good atmosphere with students making new friends which we are sure will last beyond the current situation.

Like other schools, most students are learning from home. We have been really impressed with the levels of engagement in learning across all year groups, proud that our

students are keen to uphold their ‘right to an education’. We have purchased and handed out over 140 laptops and Chromebooks so that every student is able to access their online home learning as well as delivering work packs for students who are needing to share devices. Weekly podcasts from the principal, a weekly assembly, weekly live tutor check-ins and prerecorded parts of lessons, are all helping our school community to stay together and support learning. Our

‘free choice’ sessions in years seven and eight and daily PE Instagram challenges ensure students have the opportunity to continue to build on their fitness and positive mental health.

Our students are set ‘lessons’ each day by our incredibly hard-working staff, so that they can keep as close as possible to a normal school routine. Work is being submitted back to teachers for assessment and feedback, and the standards are really good, showing that students

continue to take the time and effort to produce their best work.

A massive thanks to our parents and carers for supporting with the home learning which we know is not easy. We have enjoyed speaking to you by phone and continue to work in the positive partnerships already established! All this being said, we continue to miss our students dearly and hope that, once we can do so safely, students can return to school.
