Chichester Festival Theatre and Chichester Cinema at New Park are working together to produce a drivein cinema in Northgate car park over the August Bank Holiday weekend (August 2831), alongside other outdoor events in Oaklands Park.

The plans are subject to government guidelines permitting large gatherings outdoors, at a social distance, in three months’ time. Arrangements will be put in place for the necessary social distancing, and all rules and guidelines prevalent at the time will be strictly adhered to throughout the event.

The event is being planned with the co-operation and support of Chichester District Council.

The Movies and Music Weekend will screen a programme of popular and classic movies to appeal to family and general audiences, who will watch them from their vehicles with the sound coming through their car radios (provision will also be made for bicycles and motorcycles). All being well, tickets will go on sale from July 30 at www.cft.org.uk and www.chichestercinema. org when the full programme for the weekend will be available.

Throughout the month of June, while Chichester Festival Theatre’s Learning,

nEducation and Participation (LEAP) team have been furloughed, the theatre will be sharing some tutorials that they, and some of CCFT’S freelance practitioners, have recorded in advance. From dance to puppetry, and basic British Sign Language to writing, they hope these online tutorials will give people a chance to try something new and flex their creative muscles while the Theatre is closed. New videos will be posted every week to a playlist on CFT’S Youtube channel. The first batch of videos are now available and include a tutorial for making a simple paper puppet from freelance puppeteer Darcy Collins and an introduction to the British Sign Language.
