Duo to play nine rounds in day

-

Cowdray Golf lady captain Jo Fife and vice-captain Hannah Ralph will be joined by Dame Laura Davies and Trish Johnson next Thursday when they attempt to complete nine rounds of Cowdray’s 18-hole championship course for the Alzheimer’s Society.

The determined duo, who have been training hard in recent weeks, will begin their challenge at 4.30am to ensure maximum daylight use. They will attempt to play the Cowdray course a staggering nine times in speed rounds, playing alternate shots.

They anticipate putting their final ball on the 18th and finishing at 7pm.

It is testament to Cowdray teaching professional Ralph’s career at the highest level in the game that Davies and Johnson have committed to join the pair for one round.

Davies is the nation’s most accomplished female golfer of modern times. She has won the Ladies European Tour, put her name to 85 professional wins globally and is the first golfer to win tournaments in five continents in one year.

Johnson began her career as a pro in 1987 when she famously won three competitions as a rookie during the Ladies European Tour. She took four victories during the 1990 tour and represented England with Laura Davies in 2007 at the Women’s Golf World Cup.

The challenge will be

behind closed doors in line with government guidelines, with the public encouraged to show their support by entering the duo’s ‘How many steps’ competition.

All proceeds will go to the Alzheimer’s Society. The pair will be extremely grateful for donations.

Fife said: “The Alzheimer’s Society funds not only cutting-edge research into the cause, care, cure and prevention of dementia taking us ever closer to new treatments, but is also taking vital steps towards better care for people living with the condition today and their friends and family.”
