Youngsters answer appeal for help

- James Connaughton news@chiobserver.co.uk

An appeal for help from the RSPCA’S Mount Noddy centre has inspired three youngsters to show their support for the animal rescue charity.

The effect of nearly three months of lockdown has left the RSPCA’S Mount Noddy centre at Chichester in a ‘desperate state of affairs’ due to the closure of the charity’s five shops and cancellation of fundraising events.

Victoria and Catherine Glynn, aged six and seven, and their cousin Ben Ellis, ten, saw the appeal and decided they wanted to help.

The Medmerry Primary School and Birdham CE Primary School pupils set up a cake sale in the girls’ front garden in Broad View, Selsey, and raised £80.53, as well as receiving donations of cat and dog food.

The children’s efforts did not stop there though – they also convinced Selsey pet shops The Pet Pantry and The Fruit Basket, as well as their local Co-op, to donate more food to the Mount Noddy centre.

Animal centre manager Susan Botherway said: “It has

been a challenging past few months, but the dedicated team has worked incredibly hard continuing to provide essential care for the dogs and cats and ensure every animal gets the treatment, love and interaction that they need.

“Although we managed to move some dogs and cats out to foster homes, these are limited and so we have not reduced our animal welfare operations over lockdown, meaning we need those vital funds now more than ever.”

Trustee Fleur O’kelly said: “The centre had to keep going throughout lockdown, to look after the abandoned, neglected and unwanted dogs and cats in their care. The vets’ bills keep on coming and the centre must be financed.”

The animal centre is appealing for donations, no matter how small, to be sent to RSPCA Sussex, Chichester and District Branch, Mount Noddy Animal Centre, Blackmill Lane, Eartham, Chichester PO18 0LL. Registered charity number 206300.

Donations can also be made on the Mount Noddy website at www.rspca.org.uk/local/sussex-chichester-anddistrict-branch
