Major Mick, who rowed 100 miles along Chichester Canal for charity, is busy building a new boat for his next challenge.

Major Mick Stanley has announced he will return to the water with his latest charitable endeavour.

Eighty-year-old Mick, of West Wittering, rowed for 100 miles along Chichester Canal to raise money for St Wilfrid’s Hospice in a homemade boat, the ‘Tintanic’.

He raised £44,000 for his first challenge, “It started off as a but of a joke that would raise £1,000 but then it took off.”

The former Royal Dragoon Guards Major has now announced he will be undertaking another 100 mile rowing challenge but this time across various waterways and stretches of rivers and coast un and down the country.

Major Mick, has begun work on his latest vessel,

the ‘Tintanic II’, and hopes to begin his adventure later this year.

He said: “I have started now and I have plenty of time to do it but I won’t be doing anything until Easter.

“I’m raising money for Alzheimer’s Research and doing it because so many of my friends have been inflicted with the disease and have died of it so I think it is a worthy cause to support.

“It’s nationwide too, so what I am intending to do is

to go to various parts of the country – up to Scotland to the highlands.”

Mick enjoyed the support he received and the ‘banter’ he had with walkers.

He said he hopes to get more support for his next campaign: “I really enjoyed talking to people along the tow path.”

Mick has set no fundraising target at the moment but expects the new Justgiving page to online within the next three weeks.
