Icy insulation Frost protection

-

Runcton business The Summer Berry Company had to adapt and innovate to protect its blueberry crop from frost in recent weeks. High-volume sprinklers were employed during frosty nights to protect the already open flowers and buds and ensure there is fruit ready for the start of the season in June. A spokesman explained that as ice forms around the plant it partially insulates it from the harsher exterior temperatures. The production team had to make sure the sprinklers were constantly wetting the plants and that they were coated with a clear liquidice mixture, with water dripping off the ice, which meant the application rate was sufficient to prevent damage. The innovative solution provided spectacular frosty morning walks for the team.
