Emsworth’s award-winning fundraiser Jess Webb certainly dived head first into her latest attempt to raise money for the Huntington’s Disease Association (HDA).

The 16-year-old has devoted a huge amount of time and energy to raising money for the charity since losing two family members to the disease.

Her work has led to national recognition and awards – but her latest venture took things to new heights... literally.

Daredevil Jess completed a tandem skydive which has netted another £2,500 for the charity.

She told us: “It got postponed by a few days because of the weather but I did it! I have raised £2,159 so far and I am still getting donations in. “In June 2007 my uncle, who later sadly passed away from Huntington’s disease, did a skydive to raise funds, so it was humbling to be able to follow in his footsteps.

“It was an amazing experience and one that I will never forget. Throughout the day there were various occasions where we thought it would get cancelled as the weather was not too great.

“Luckily I was able to jump from 15,000ft – the highest you can jump in the UK.

“The free fall was my favourite bit, falling through multiple layers of clouds, it was perfect. The motion sickness was bad but I 100 per cent do not regret doing it.

“The staff at Goskydive (Salisbury) were amazing too.

“To date, in total, I have raised around £15,000 for HD!”

It’s not the only boost Jess has had in recent weeks.

She added: “I got a lovely email from the HDA asking if I would like to be an HDA ambassador.

“The ambassadors play a vital role as, with their limited national resources, I can help raise awareness in places they cannot be.

“I am so happy to have been asked as it is important to continue raising funds and awareness for HD.”

Never one to rest on her laurels, Jess is now planning to swap her parachute for a racing car. On July 31 she is involved in a Super Car Track Day at the Goodwood motor circuit, also in aid of Huntington’s disease.

Jess said: “This is a free family day out hosted by Saywell International. The event starts at 9am and it will be a fantastic event which should raise lots of awareness. Anyone is welcome to attend.”
