Juniors, seniors are busy at Bognor

Bognor Golf Club seniors have finally restarted their club matches after 15 months.

Five games have taken place in quick succession.

The first, at Worthing, was a crushing defeat for Bognor losing 5.5-2.5.

Bognor travelled to Southwick Park and came away with an excellent 5.5-0.5 win, a super performanc­e considerin­g Southwick have a remarkable home record and rarely lose.

Three home games followed and Bognor won them all. Ham Manor were defeated 5- 3 , Corhampton 6-2 and Petersfiel­d 5.5-1.5 as Bognor retained the Petebog Trophy.

Internally, Bognor Seniors have held a number of competitio­ns. The Poston Greensomes was won by Mike Oates and Jerry Rixon with 44 points, just ahead of Gerard Cashman amd Eddie Smith on 43.

The Reg Paine Trophy, part of the Fletcher Series, was won by Roland Heath with 43 points. Second was Bill Hartridge on 39.

Also in the Fletcher Series, the Tommy Thomson Cup was won by Ian Burgess on 39 points ahead of Roy Kempson on 38.

The Seniors’ Spring Cup was won by Sean Francis with 40 points with Graham Harmes second on 39.

Bognor GC juniors had a busy week that started with The Mullenger medal, kindly supported by Maureen Mullenger for many years now.

Jamie Burchell and Charlie Maginnis tied on nett 71. but Jamie pipped Charlie on countback.

The first West Sussex League match of the season was played at Goodwood GC.

The Bognor team of Thomas Hendrick, Charlie Maginnis, Ben Whitney and Robin Davey finished first, beating Goodwood by a point.

The President’s Trophy is a major event for the juniors, sponsored by the club president Ian Pettie who puts forward the prizesand supplies the lunch at the 36-hole event.

The morning round saw Harry Malin shoot a two under gross 68 for 37 Stableford points with Jamie Burchell three back on 34. Harry continued his good form in the afternoon with a gross 69 for 36 points to win the trophy.

Jamie’s 34 points earned the scratch prize along with both nearest the pin prizes. Harry lifted the trophy and thanked Ian Pettie for his support of the junior section.
