Already I feel this column may be a little uncomfortable for me to write. I have to confront, with some honesty, my personality. Already, my wife Caroline is looking over my shoulder thinking this should be interesting. I like to think that, if you met me, you would think I am a ‘good guy’. But I do have, in roughly equal measure, a healthy amount of ego and insecurity. I don’t know if this is a ‘radio presenter’ thing, and I certainly can’t speak for my colleagues, but it is a ‘me’ thing.

These character traits mean that I am often ‘that guy’. You know, the one that thinks he knows best and never listens to anyone else’s feedback. I’m the guy that never reads the flatpack furniture instructions. Why would I? I know exactly how this works. I’ve got this! I’m the guy that takes the country lane when Google tells me to stay on the A27. Sure, I got trapped for 25 minutes between an oncoming tractor and the delivery van behind me, but can you imagine how much worse the A27 would have been?

And, because of this, I really struggled with ‘snoop sessions’ during my radio career.

A snoop session is basically a meeting with the boss where they listen to the day’s show and offer constructive help and guidance.

I once worked for a radio station where we would dissect every single show. Five days a week! It drove me crazy, I hated it. At first. But after a while I begrudgingly had to admit that it was helping, quite a lot in fact. It got to the stage where I was emailing segments of the show to the boss with ‘What do you think?’ in the subject line. I hadn’t changed as a person, but I got to learn the importance of feedback.

When I moved to a new radio station that was a little more, shall we say, relaxed I once asked, “Is everything okay with the show? Is it what you want?” I actually missed the feedback!

Now I’m the guy who leaves reviews, all the time. Generally, very good ones, sometimes with a suggestion or two for improvement, as I now know how valuable it is. How can you possible improve if you don’t know what people currently think of your company or service?

It is for exactly this reason that, at V2 Radio, we have launched the Voice Your

View of V2. It’s a simple online form where you can feedback your views. It would be really helpful for us if you can take part.

And, take it from someone who fills in many feedback forms, it’s actually fun to do. Please let us know what you think of your proper local radio station at v2radio.co.uk/voiceyour-view-of-v2

V2 Radio is available to listen to online at v2radio.co.uk, via DAB, on the V2 Radio app and on smart speakers.
