Friars work like Trojans to put five past opponents

-

HOCKEY Chichester Friars 5 Trojans 4s 1

South Central Div 4

The Friars were on top right from the start, creating several good chances in the first few minutes that they could not convert.

The Trojans defence appeared fragile, but they were good on the counter and were unlucky not to take the lead.

On 19 minutes, Bryan Lock fired in a reverse stick shot that was going wide, but a great reaction deflection from Andrew Savory gave Friars the lead.

The Friars midfield took control and the lead was doubled on 25 minutes when Lock fired in his first. Four minutes later, Adrian Strange picked out Tracy Boyce with a long-range pass which Boyce controlled with his first touch. He sent a defender and the keeper the wrong way with his second and pushed the ball into the open net.

Trojans came out stronger in the second half, but the Friars held strong, and Rob Torrance picked up anything that made it through.

It was the Friars turn to play counter-attacking Hockey and on 47 minutes Savory finished off a sweeping move with a powerful drag shot into the roof of the net.

With a four-goal lead, the Friars allowed Trojans more possession and they pulled one back on 50 minutes. They were beaten again on the counter on 62 minutes when Lock finished off a good move. This win leaves Friars second in the table. Friars: Rob Torrance, Trevor Andrews, Steve Mercer, Dave Walters, Tracy Boyce, Adrian Strange, Chris Pacey, Andrew Savory, Mark Richmond, Bryan Lock, Andy Osborne, Gareth Wharton, Warren Driscoll.
