Heartsmart walks this week

Arrangedby­trainedvol­unteer leaders, Heartsmart walks aim to show people routes, encourage them to keep their hearts healthy and help them meet other people to walk with. Here are this week’s planned walks:

■ February 4, 10.30am – Watergate Park. A 2.25-hour, five-mile walk through woods and fields with three steepish climbs and stiles. No dogs. Meet: At the junction of the B2146 and the Walderton Stoughton Road.

■ February 5, 10.30am – Lynchmere Common wellbeing wander. A onehour, 1–1.5-mile flat walk with occasional short inclines and declines. No dogs. Meet: Lynchmere Society Noticeboar­d at the main entrance to the site on the western side of the common (what3words: ///thudding. uttering.inherits).

■ February 7, 10.30am – Chichester Canal. A 30-minute, one-mile flat walk at a gentle pace, suitable for beginners. Meet: Chichester Canal, PO19 8DT.

■ February 7, 11am – Bosham Harbour and Villlage.

A 45-minute, 1.5-mile, circular flat walk no stiles through historic Old Bosham and along its scenic harbour front, wheelchair friendly and easy access. Meet: Bosham car park, PO18 8HZ, at Bosham Public Toilets.

■ February 7, 2pm – Eartham Wood and Great Down. A 2.5–3-hour, six-mile walk through indigenous woodland to the highest point of Upwaltham Hill and return via the Great Down. No dogs. Meet: Free Forestry Commission Car Park, Eartham Wood, PO18 0LU.

■ February 8, 10.30am – Goodwood Country Park. A two-hour, four-mile walk through the woods around Goodwood and Halnaker with a long climb on the return journey. Meet: Free car park on the right after passing Goodwood racecourse (not the car park opposite the course), PO18 0PS.

■ February 8, 11am – Midhurst Jubilee Walk and South Pond. A 30-minute, one-mile walk at a gentle pace with a steady incline to the top of the jubilee path and a small bridge over the pond.

Meet: The Grange Leisure Centre, GU29 9HD.

■ February 9, 10.30am – Chidham Peninsula. A 2.5hour, five-mile flat walk with some of the best panoramic views of the harbour. Some beach walking, no stiles. Meet: Cobnor Farm Amenity car park, Chidham Lane, PO18 8TD.

■ February 9, 10.30am – Iping Common. A twohour, 4.3-mile walk with an 80-metre ascent. Lovely heathland area on paths with no stiles, Meet: Iping Common car park, GU29 0PB.

■ February 10, 10.30am – Harting and North Marden. A three-hour, 6.5-mile hilly walk with lovely views and open countrysid­e. No stiles but can be slippery. No dogs. Meet: National Trust Car Park on Harting Down.

■ February 11 – 10.30am – Compton. A two-hour, threemile walk along lanes and paths to West Marden. Meet: Compton Recreation Ground Car Park, just south of village.
