Rose Green WI

-

After Jerusalem was sung the president, Cheryl Packham, reported that many of the members had contacted her after the December Christmas party to say how much they had enjoyed the evening.

The two-course meal, provided by the committee and the entertainment by Quatre were very much appreciated. As there was no West Sussex News in January the business was kept to the minimum.

Cheryl then introduced the speaker for the evening, Sally Botwright.

Sally is a representative for the charity Hearing Dogs for the Deaf.

She is also a Blue Badge holder for the Institute of Tourist Guiding and is an excellent speaker.

She outlined how the charity for hearing dogs came about and how things have developed over the years.

Sally, along with her husband Colin, have in the past been part of the team of people who take on a puppy for the first few months of its life to help with initial training and socialisation of a suitable breed of dog.

Hearing Dogs is a charity which is not as well known as similar charities for people with other disabilities, but as Sally explained it can change a recipients life, and enable them to function as part of the community again.

Both Sally and her husband were enthusiastically thanked for giving such an enjoyable and informative talk.

After refreshments were served, the members spent time discussing this year’s five resolutions put forward by the National Federation of the WI.

The resolution, ‘Women and Girls with ASD and ADHD: under identified, under diagnosed, misdiagnosed and under supported’, was selected by the members of Rose Green WI when the resolutions were put to the vote.

The speaker for the next main meeting will be Peter Chapman-andrews.

The talk is entitled ‘Navigating the Royals’ and will be held at the Rowland Rank Centre on February 9 at 7.30pm.
