Rotary Club Young Chef of the Year 2022

-

Midhurst Rother College is a firm supporter of the Rotary Youth Competitions. The competitions run in a range of creative areas, let young people’s skills flourish and are perfect for budding chefs, photographers, writers, public speakers and musicians. Year 10 GCSE Hospitality and Catering students competed against each other in the local heat of the Rotary Club Young Chef of the Year 2022. The aims of the competition are to learn how to cook a healthy meal, develop food presentation skills, consider food hygiene issues, develop organisational and planning skills and develop an ability to cope in a demanding situation. The task was to prepare, in two hours, a three-course healthy meal comprising of a starter, main course and dessert for two people and costing less than £20.00. After much heat in the kitchen, a wonderful array of menus and delicious delights were put before the judging panel, Bekim Shillova, owner of La Piazzetta restaurants in Petersfield & Midhurst, John Barrett, Rotary Midhurst and Petworth and Natalie Bowers, MRC Teacher of Food Technology. “The students should all be very proud of what they cooked, all the food that was presented to judges was of a high standard and had excellent feedback from the judges” said Joe Etienne, who teaches Year 10 GSCE Food Technology at MRC.

In addition to the prizes given to the 3 winners, all the finalists that took part in the competition will get to visit La Piazzetta in Midhurst to see how the kitchens operate and also get to try some of the food from the menu! This is an exciting thing for students to do that will help them with their hospitality and catering exam as well as subject understanding.” The College also takes part in the annual Rotary Young Photographer,

Young Writer and Young Musician Competitions.
