Bowlers busy on the rinks at Crablands
It’s been a busy time for Crablands bowlers.
The Bitterns hosted Arundel Swallows and won on both mats for six points in a 40-28 win.
The friendly rink won 398.
Crablands Avocets played a league match against Fittleworth Swans winning four points.
Elaine Sadler, Sarah Fewster and Paul Holland had a very strong start but Fittleworth won 17-10.
Julia Mclaren, Graham Ainge and Trevor Plaistow won 24-9. The aggregate score gave Crablands the extra two league points.
There was also a friendly in which Susan Jackson, Cheryl Brown and Bryan Jackson lost to the stronger Fittleworth team.
It was a great afternoon of bowling and Avocets look forward to the return match.
Club social events are back in full swing and a fabulous Christmas quiz evening was a big success.
A Beetle Drive with a Ploughman’s supper brought another fun-filled evening.
Crablands hosted Hawley Hawks in the Knockout Cup. Crablands were successful on one rink but lost heavily on the other rink and could not make up the deficit.
The new year started with Crablands’ Chairman’s Cup competition – and what a competition it was.
On day one all games were
keenly contested but two had nail-biting finishes.
In round one Denise & Bill Merritt took on Rod Shambrook & Mollie Back and at 15-15, on the extra end Denise & Bill picked up the one point required to win. They were unable to continue with their quarter-final and withdrew.
In the first quarter-final Bryan & Susan Jackson led 17-16 with one end to play against Tony Dade & Val Foyle. Superb play by Tony &
Val saw them get the victory by 18-17.
Semi-finals day saw Tony & Val beat Peter Blackman & Cheryl Brown 17-9.
Joining them in the final are Graham & Alex Ainge who took an early lead against Lew & Chris Lewendon and won 20-8.
The final is to be held in March and it should be a very exciting match between two very good teams.
