Heartsmart walks

Arranged by trained volunteer leaders, Heartsmart walks aim to show people routes, encourage them to keep their hearts healthy and help them meet other people to walk with. Here are this week’s planned walks:

March 4, 10.30am – Lynchmere Common wellbeing wander. A onehour, 1-1.5-mile flat walk with occasional short inclines and declines. No dogs.

Meet: Lynchmere Society Noticeboar­d at the main entrance to the site on the western side of the common (what3words: ///thudding. uttering.inherits).

March 6, 10.30am – Boxgrove Village Hall to Halnaker Windmill. A twohour, five-mile hilly climb to Halnaker Windmill and return. Meet: Boxgrove

Village Hall, PO18 0ES.

March 7. 2pm –

Midhurst, Iping and Stedham Commons. A 2-2.5-hour, 5.5-mile mostly flat walk through heathland, pine forest and commons with lovely outlooks and one steep narrow path. No dogs. Meet: Iping and Stedham Car Park.

March 8, 11am –

Midhurst Jubilee Walk and South Pond. A 30-minute, one-mile walk at a gentle pace with a steady incline to the top of the jubilee path and a small bridge over the pond. Meet: The Grange Leisure Centre, GU29 9HD.

March 9, 10.30am – Pagham Harbour. A twohour, four-mile flat walk to Sidlesham Quay and round the unspoilt harbour side and farmland to the north. Meet: Pagham Nature Reserve Visitor Centre(nearby postcode PO20 7NE).

March 9, 10.30am – Eartham Woods. A 2-2.5hour, 5.5-mile walk through Eartham Woods, coming back along Stane Street. No stiles. Meet: Forestry Commission Car Park, Eartham.

March 10, 10.30am – Burpham and Wepham. A two-hour, five-mile hilly walk with several climbs.

Lovely views. Can be uneven and muddy underfoot in the woods. Has stiles. No dogs. Meet: The public car park behind the George at Burpham (BN18 9RR).

March 10, 10am – Wisborough Green. A 2.5 to 3-hour, seven-mile fairly level walk with some undulation­s, four stiles and some muddy puddles to walk around.

Meet: park at the green in the laybys.

March 11, 10.30am – Medmerry. A two-hour, threemile walk around northern edge of Medmerry. Meet: Pagham Harbour Nature Reserve RSPB car park, sharp left on grass.

March 11, 10.30am – Poling Ponds. A two-hour, four-mile circular walk via Angmering village to Poling Ponds. Meet: Rustington Golf Centre car park, BN16 4NB (park in lanes nearest car park entrance).
