Rose Green WI

-

The president Cheryl Packham welcomed members and four visitors to the February meeting of Rose Green WI.

Cheryl asked members to try to ensure they kept May 14 free in their diaries – after a two-year break she hoped we would be able to once again have a fundraising plant and cake sale.

Attention was drawn to the notice board outlining future events organised by the West Sussex Federation, sadly many events are still being held online and these have not proved to be popular with members.

Rose Green will be partaking in a walk in aid of The Association of the Woman of the World on Wednesday, April 27, at 2pm.

Cheryl introduced the speaker for the evening, Captain Peter Chapmanandrews.

The presentation, entitled Navigating the Royals, was about Peter’s time spent as Navigator on board the aircraft carrier Ark Royal and the Royal Yacht Britannia.

It was interesting to hear of the difficulties of navigating such a large vessel, especially one with an offset bridge.

Peter spoke about a variety of manoeuvres throughout the world and it was obvious how proud he was of the crew with whom he served.

Having had a number of spells of duty on board Ark Royal Peter then spent time navigating what was then the largest yacht in the world, Britannia.

Members were fascinated to see pictures of the interior of the ship and hear of the various experiences Peter had while on board.

The next meeting for Rose Green WI is on Wednesday, March 9, at the Rowland Rank Centre at 7.30pm.

A representative from Southern Water will be giving a talk.
